August 25th, 2007 marks the beginning of a new DJ chapter after more than 23 years in the industry. While it’s true that I had completely removed myself from the Disc Jockey trade it’s also true that something was really missing in my life. On this particular night I decided to make my return as a DJ a wedding gift to some very close friends.
With no plans to have a DJ whatsoever, it wasn’t hard to convince them that a free Disc Jockey wouldn’t hurt their budget. The best part is what I learned from the experience. To this very day Rosa and Kyle will be the first to tell you that their reception wouldn’t have been a success without a DJ. Yet, originally, they planned to run their own music off of a computer.
The mix of music they planned to load on the computer was far different from what actually ended up getting their crowd moving. Just like any other bride and groom, they wanted their guests to be happy and have a good time dancing. Certainly they were correct in knowing what a number of their closest friends and family might enjoy, but they now truly appreciate how a skilled Disc Jockey can anticipate what to play next to keep excitement in the room.
This night merely solidified in my mind that RVL Entertainment & Enterprises Inc. would require nothing but skilled and passionate Disc Jockeys. The Disc Jockeys had to be the type of people that would never compromise service because they have too much pride. Simply put; all of the Disc Jockeys had to recognize that we are a service first!
As much as it is about entertainment, the host of the party and the guests will always come first.
Our mission statement, “To listen, understand & provide our clients with customized solutions to meet their entertainment needs”, serves as a reminder for all members of RVL to listen to the customer. Whether it’s finding a solution to projecting the image for a video presentation in advance of the event or finding a way to accommodate a special last second request at the function.
In addition, the mission statement ensures that we adjust to meet the changing times. RVL Entertainment & Enterprises Inc. provides other specialty services such as photography, audio productions & video productions.
Starting late in 2007 the RVL name was a part of 11 events for that year. In 2008 the RVL name was common to 120 different events. As of September 30, 2009, a total of 147 different events had entrusted the RVL name with their function and as at Valentines Day 2010, 82 functions have already booked an RVL DJ. This places us well ahead of the pace set last year and continues our upward trend.
A man by the name of Ronald Vincent Lilley told me many years ago to “get a real job”. As much as I always aimed to please my father, I was certain I could prove what I did was real. After watching me work one night, he quietly gave me the nod of approval and began to respect my chosen career. Until the day he passed away he encouraged me to dream my dreams.
The RVL initials and logo ensure that I will always give my heartfelt best for every client and this is the expectation that I have of every DJ or service provider working under the RVL name.
Sincerely,
Sean R. Lilley
